The Cosmic Charlie tease sent a surge through the crowd. When they veered into Wharf Rat the air went out of the place. But for just a moment we thought we were going to witness some history.

I remember hearing about it , then hearing it on tape . I wonder if Jerry wanted to do it then remembered they didn't remember it ? Or as you said , chickened out at the last moment , or fucking with us ? Has anyone ever heard what that was all about ?

I'm not at all a fan of the Welnick years, but that's one show I've kept as a curio. Was it an accident? Did they chicken out? Were they just fucking with people?

The complete deflation of the audience comes through a little better on this source.

My memory is they all weren't ready to start the next tune so they started noodling and it turned into the Cosmic Charlie tease. Definite disappointment for the crowd when they didn't follow through. I had heard somewhere that they just thought CC was too hard to play live. Oh well I have more than 30 years of shows to remember and this was just one.
